American Auger DD-10 HDD Head Engineering

On a previous job where we encountered hard ground conditions, we completely sheared off the end of our old drill shoe.

We attempted sourcing a drill shoe locally with no luck. . . Our only options were to import a drill shoe from the States and wait approximately 2 weeks or to manufacture our own.

We chose the latter. Starting by profile-cutting a 40mm thick steel plate, then milling the edges to get the shape we wanted and milling an angle to the cutting edge of the head in order for us to have the ability to steer the head while drilling.

We drilled holes for the tungsten carbide tip inserts which reduces wear to the drill shoe, after we heat treated the drill shoe and gave it a coat of paint, not that it's going to last very long.
